Senior Todd Harrity Plays For Second National Squash - Princeton ...

Senior Todd Harrity, the 2011 national squash champion, will get a chance to end his collegiate career with a second title Sunday afternoon when he takes on St. Lawrence freshman Amr Khaled Khalifa in the national final.

Harrity has yet to drop an individual game during the championships, a stretch that included two victories Saturday. In a rematch of his 2011 national final, he defeated Cornell's Nick Sachvie 11-7, 11-3, 11-8 to advance to the semifinal round, where he met fifth-seeded freshman Ahmed Abdel Khalek of Bates College. Abdel Khalek upset former finalist Ramit Tandon in four games, but Harrity ended that run there.

The Princeton co-captain topped Abdel Khalek 11-7, 11-7, 11-4 to reach his third career final, which will be played Sunday at noon on Court 1 at Trinity College. His opponent will be another freshman, as Khalifa upset reigning national champion Ali Farag of Harvard in a five-game thriller. After dropping the first two games, Khalifa scored wins of 11-7 and 11-6 to force a fifth.

Khalifa, who defeated Princeton sophomore Tyler Osborne in four sets in the quarterfinal, went extra points before finally defeating Farag 13-11 in the fifth.

Harrity is the last Princeton player standing in the 'A' draw, though both the men's and women's teams have players left in the 'B' draw. Either Alex Sawin or Lexi Saunders will play for the Holleran Cup, as those two members of the Ivy League champion women's squash team will play in one semifinal match Sunday morning. On the men's side, Vivek Dinodia survived a marathon five-game match to advance to the Molloy Division semifinals.

Princeton senior Julie Cerullo and junior Libby Eyre were both eliminated from the women's 'A' division during the quarterfinal round. Cerullo fell to fifth-seeded Yan Xin Tan in three tight games, while Eyre almost pulled off one of the upsets of the year. She led former national champion Millie Tomlinson of Yale 2-1, but Tomlinson battled back for wins of 11-7 and 11-6 to finish the match.
